Individual Therapy | Carmel, IN

If you’re dealing with stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, or personal struggles, individual therapy can help. At Intentional Living Counseling in Carmel, Indiana, we provide one-on-one support for teens and adults in a safe, confidential environment where you can explore your concerns and work toward meaningful goals. Through client-centered, evidence-based approaches, therapy is tailored to your unique needs and helps you build insight, develop practical coping strategies, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

What individual therapy is and how it works

Individual therapy is a one-on-one process where you work with a licensed therapist to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It provides a confidential, supportive space to talk openly about what you’re going through without judgment or pressure.

Rather than simply offering advice, therapy is a collaborative process. Together, you and your therapist identify patterns, explore underlying causes, and develop practical strategies that help you move forward. Sessions are guided by your goals—whether that’s managing stress, improving relationships, building confidence, or navigating a life transition.

Over time, this process helps you gain insight, strengthen coping skills, and make meaningful changes that support long-term emotional well-being.

Individual therapy might be helpful if you are:

  • Feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or burned out
  • Navigating a major life transition (career, relationships, etc.)
  • Dealing with loss or caregiving of a relative
  • Struggling with self-esteem or confidence
  • Wanting to better understand your thoughts and emotions
  • Experiencing anxiety, low mood, or frequent emotional ups and downs
  • Feeling stuck or unsure about your next steps

How individual therapy can help you

Individual therapy helps you make sense of what you’re experiencing and take practical steps toward change. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply looking for clarity, therapy provides structure and support to move forward in a way that feels manageable.

Through the process, you can learn to better understand your thoughts and emotions, develop healthier coping strategies, and respond to challenges with greater confidence. Therapy can also help improve communication, strengthen relationships, and support more intentional decision-making in your personal and professional life.

Our approach to individual therapy

At Intentional Living Counseling, individual therapy is tailored to you—your experiences, your goals, and your pace. We take a client-centered approach, meaning sessions are guided by what feels most important and relevant to you, rather than a one-size-fits-all structure.

Our therapists use evidence-based techniques to help you better understand patterns, process experiences, and develop practical tools you can apply in everyday life. Depending on your needs, this may include approaches that support emotional regulation, insight-building, and meaningful behavior change.

We focus on creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and collaborative—where you can explore challenges openly while also working toward clear, realistic progress.

At Intentional Living Counseling, you can expect

Greater clarity around your thoughts, emotions, and patterns

Improved ability to manage stress and navigate challenges

Stronger confidence in decision-making and daily life

Healthier communication and relationship skills

A clearer sense of direction and personal growth

These are the kinds of changes many people begin to experience as they gain insight and build practical tools in therapy. With consistent support, it becomes easier to move forward with greater confidence, clarity, and a stronger sense of control in your day-to-day life.

FAQs

Some of the questions we hear most often about individual therapy and getting started.

Contact
What happens in a first individual therapy session?

Your first session is mostly about getting to know you — there's no pressure to dive into everything at once. Your therapist will ask about what brought you in, what you're hoping to work toward, and a bit of your background, so together you can start shaping a plan that fits your goals. Many people feel a sense of relief just having that first conversation.

How long does individual therapy take?

It depends on your goals. Some people come in to work through a specific challenge and feel resolution in a few months; others value ongoing support over a longer period. In your early sessions, you and your therapist will talk openly about what you're hoping for and revisit that together as you go, so the pace always reflects your needs rather than a fixed timeline.

How much does individual therapy cost, and do you take insurance?

Individual therapy sessions are $175 for a 60-minute session, with 45- and 30-minute options also available. We begin with a free 10-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions before scheduling. Self-pay clients receive a $25 discount when payment is made on the date of service.

If you're using insurance and your therapist is in network with your plan, your session will be billed at the discounted rate contracted with your insurance company. For those who qualify based on income, we also offer a sliding fee scale at reduced rates. You can find full details on our fees and payment options on our Services page.

Do you offer in-person and virtual sessions?

Yes. We offer in-person individual therapy at our office in Carmel, Indiana, as well as secure virtual sessions for clients across the state. You're welcome to choose whichever feels most comfortable, and you can switch between the two as your needs change.

How do I know if individual therapy is right for me?

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply want space to understand yourself better, individual therapy can help — you don't need to be in crisis to benefit. If you're unsure whether it's the right fit, we offer a free initial phone consultation where you can ask questions and get a feel for how we work before committing to anything.
